On September 5, Bae, Kim & Lee LLC (“BKL”) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Matouk Bassiouny, a regional law firm in the Middle East & North Africa (“MENA”) region, in order to provide active and effective legal services to Korean companies that wish to make inroads and investment into the region.
The MOU signing ceremony was honored by the presence of the two law firms’ key officials, including Sky Yang, managing partner of BKL, and John Matouk and Omar Bassiouny, the founding and managing partners of Matouk Bassiouny.
Matouk Bassiouny is a leading, full-service MENA region law firm with offices in major regional business hubs, among others, Cairo of Egypt, Dubai of the United Arab Emirates, and Khartoum of Sudan. At the firm’s Dubai office, Attorney Jiyoung Bae, a former BKL professional with expertise in the MENA region, endeavors to provide a legal service “tailored to the region”.
The two law firms plan to carry out various business activities in the future, including ▲exploration of future business partnerships, ▲publication of newsletters on the legal trends of Asia and MENA, and ▲co-hosting of conferences. BKL’s managing partner Sky Yang emphasized that this MOU will “lay the groundwork for a partnership on the cusp of a second “Middle East boom” to provide optimal solutions on the next level for Korean companies planning to expand their foothold in the region.”
On the heels of the MOU signing ceremony, the two law firms co-hosted a seminar titled “2023 Middle East Legal Issues Examined: Investment and Healthcare”, where His Excellency Sami M. Alsadhan, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Korea, delivered his commemorative speech.
Along with the MOU, BKL has launched the “BKL MENA TF”. The TF will be led by Attorney Sangchul Kim, who is well-versed in international arbitration and litigation involving disputes over finance and insurance with respect to large-scale construction projects. The managing partner of BKL’s Singapore office Eric Eunyong Yang and senior foreign attorney Yongquan Chi will lead legal advisory services for Korean and foreign companies on their investment in the MENA region. The BKL MENA TF comprises numerous seasoned professionals in the fields of digital finance including fintech and cryptocurrency (Attorney Seyeong Im), healthcare (Senior Advisor Youngjoo Song), IP (Attorney Taeguen Kim), international arbitration and litigation (Attorneys Hongjoong Kim, Yongman Bae, and Woojae Kim), and finance (Attorneys Hojin Kim, Seungil Hong, and Yelim Hyon), as well as attorneys Youngjun Kwon and Cheolmin Choi, who have rich experience in litigation and advisory service on construction, real estate and PF.
