Overview
Cheonsoo Ra focuses his practice on civil, criminal and administrative litigations. While serving as a judge for 20 years, Mr. Ra held various positions, including as judge at the Seoul Central District Court, Seoul Family Court, and Seoul High Court and director at the National Court of Administration, chief judge at the Gangneung Branch of Chuncheon District Court, professor at the Judicial Research and Training Institute, Supreme Court of Korea, until he became presiding judge at the Seoul Central District Court. Since joining Bae, Kim & Lee LLC in 1999, he also served as adjunct processor at the Judicial Research and Training Institute, a member of the Administrative Appeals Commission, and member of the National Human Rights Commission of Korea, arbitrator, Korean Commercial Arbitration Board.
Mr. Ra also defended his clients in large, most high-profile litigations brought before the Supreme Court of Korea. In particular, for two of the litigated cases, he obtained en banc decisions that acknowledged the disposition refusing re-appointment of a faculty member (2009Do6788, so-called Seoul National University's Assistant Professor Case) and denied a legal opinion prepared by a lawyer as an admissible evidence (2007Do6788). He still successfully represents his clients in a wide range of litigations.
