Overview
Hongjoong (HJ) Kim is a partner in the International Arbitration Practice Group at Bae, Kim & Lee LLC and his practice focuses on resolution of international dispute of liaison nature such as international arbitration (commercial/investment), and international civil litigations, and Mr. Kim has various experience in Alternative Dispute Resolution.
Mr. Kim has practiced since 2006, after serving as a judge advocate in the Republic of Korea Air Force for three years. Since joining BKL, he has acted as counsel in hundreds of international disputes. His experience covers a wide variety of industries, including post M&A, distributorship, shipbuilding, aerospace, hypermarkets, automobile parts, online content, oil, pharmaceuticals, private equity, government contracts, and golf course operation, among others.
Mr. Kim holds degrees from the Yonsei University College of Law (LL.B.) and Pepperdine University School of Law (LL.M. in Dispute Resolution). While pursuing studies at Pepperdine University, he acted as a mediator for the Los Angeles Superior Court. In addition, he played a key role in the drafting of the first English-language treatise on international arbitration in Korea: Arbitration Law of Korea: Practice and Procedure (Co-author, Juris Publishing, 2012), as well as the Korean-language treatise Arbitration Law & Practice (Co-author, Pakyongsa, 2012). Also, he serves as court-appointed Mediator at Seoul Central District Court as well as Arbitral Panel at Korean Commercial Arbitration Board (KCAB).
