Overview

Edward Sungwook Kim is a member of the Bae, Kim & Lee LLC's Shanghai office. Mr. Kim's practice focuses on inbound/outbound cross-border transactions involving Korea and Greater China (i.e., China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan).

Since 2002, Mr. Kim advised multinational companies' entry into Korean market or Korean companies's entry into overseas markets, and handled project financing and financial derivative products. Then he went to the U.S. to study American laws and then Beijing to study China laws. After completing the study of China laws, he went to Shanghai and restarted as a lawyer by providing advice on corporate legal affairs. Up to now, he has acted on behalf of major Korean companies eager to enter Chinese market (in the form of M&A, joint venture, or greenfield investment, etc.) and on behalf of Chinese companies that want to enter the Korean market.

Mr. Kim is a member of the Investor-State Dispute Settlement Committee of the Ministry of Justice and member of the Legal Advisory Panel for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Doing Business Abroad of the Ministry of Justice. He also participated in the research project for the “Study on the Enforcement of Intellectual Property Law in China” supervised by the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy, provided legal advice for Korea Copyright Commission Beijing office, and advised on legal matters in connection with Korea-China FTA. He recently advised on-line game, telecommunications, media and entertainment companies. In connection with the 4th industrial revolution, he has actively represented healthcare, biotech, electric vehicles, big data, cyber security, data privacy companies.
