Overview
Kijoong Kang is a partner at Bae, Kim & Lee LLC. Before joining BKL, Mr. Kang served as a judge specializing in intellectual property matters, including patents, designs, trademarks, and copyrights, managing partner of an IP law firm, and an executive vice president and the head of IP litigation team of a global electronics manufacturer.
After Mr. Kang began his career as a judge in 1989, he earned his LL.M. from New York University School of Law in 1999 focusing on intellectual property laws, including patent, trademark, and copyright. He then served as a judge at the Patent Court, a research judge in IP division of Supreme Court of Korea, the managing partner of AIP Patent & Law Firm, and an executive vice president and the head of IP litigation team at the IP Center of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (Samsung). As the head of IP litigation team at Samsung, he led a team of in-house attorneys, including many U.S. attorneys, and oversaw various global litigation involving IP matters, including the matter against Apple that spanned multiple countries (including U.S., Germany, U.K., France, the Netherlands, Spain, Australia, Japan, and Korea) and various IP matters, including the design patent case which he managed from the district court level to the Supreme Court decision.
Mr. Kang has managed foreign law firms with IP specialty by utilizing his theoretical and practical analyses and experienced various global IP litigation cases at the forefront, building upon his Korean IP litigation experience with those at the various legal venues, including U.S. district court jury cases, International Trade Commission investigations, and other foreign legal hearings.
