Office Introduction
BKL opened its office and started business in Shanghai in September 2008 after opening its Beijing office in October 2004, making BKL the first Korean law firm to have multiple offices in Beijing and Shanghai. With over 18 years of experience in the U.S. and China, Edward Sungwook Kim, a long-time practitioner at a major law firm in Korea and an LLM graduate of the University of Chicago Law School and Peking University School of Law, has been advising clients on a wide range of projects in the Greater China region, including mainland China, as well as Hong Kong and Taiwan. In addition to Mr. Kim, BKL’s Shanghai office also includes Jindu Li and Ling Cui (Chinese), both of whom have accumulated experience in various fields such as general corporate, M&A, finance, real estate development, and government negotiations. In addition to the traditional M&A and joint venture projects, BKL’s Shanghai office has been expanding its practice to advise companies related to the 4th Industrial Revolution, which has recently gained widespread attention, such as data privacy and personal information protection, healthcare and bio, TMT, and entertainment. BKL’s Shanghai office also provides a range of legal services to Chinese companies and multinational corporations seeking joint venture partners in Korea or investing in Korea, along with BKL’s Seoul headquarters.
