Junu Kim is a partner at Bae, Kim & Lee LLC and focuses on international arbitration, international litigation, and cases related to North Korea.
Mr. Kim has devoted himself mostly to international arbitration and litigation practice being involved in many domestic and international arbitrations seated in Seoul, Hong Kong, Singapore, New York, Paris, Tokyo and Washington, most typically under the rules of the ICC, AAA-ICDR, KCAB, SIAC, JCAA and ICSID. He particularly engaged in the disputes among shareholders and M&A, licensing, sales contract, investor-state disputes. He has extensive experience in advising on the litigation, preservative measures or corporate decision-making necessary at the stage of initial negotiation of dispute before international arbitration cases commence or at the stage of execution and performance after arbitration award is granted.
As an in-service training program of BKL, Mr. Kim attended the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School LL.M. program to learn more about different legal systems and dispute resolution environments. After graduation, he spent several months at the Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP Paris office, working on various international arbitration cases, including investor-state arbitrations. Utilizing his Japanese-speaking ability, he also worked at Anderson Mori & Tomotsune in Tokyo, assisting in legal issues arising from transactions between Korean and Japanese companies. Based on this experience, Mr. Kim was intensively involved in the production of Arbitration Law of Korea: Practice and Procedure (Co-author, Juris Publishing, 2011) published by the firm's International Arbitration and Litigation Team. He also co-authored a sister volume written in Korean (Co-author, Pakyongsa, 2012).
Mr. Kim has advised clients dealing with business related to North Korea, including the companies that operate business in Kaesong Industrial Zone of North Korea, and various government agencies including the Ministry of Unification and the Ministry of Justice with respect to the laws of North Korea and unification.
