介绍
Byungchul Yoo is a patent attorney at Bae, Kim & Lee IP and a member of the trial/litigation team in the field of electrical/electronic engineering. He joined the firm in 2022 after serving at the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) for more than 20 years.
Mr. Yoo earned his B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering at Sunmoon University and his B.A. in Political Science at Hanyang University, and also studied at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST, techno-MBA), Boston University School of Law (LL.M.) and Harvard University (MC-MPA). In 1998, he joined the KIPO and has years of abundant in-depth expertise in patent examination, trials and appeal procedures by serving as the presiding examiner of various examination divisions at the KIPO, and also as a patent trial judge at the Intellectual Property Trial and Appeal Board (IPTAB). With his remarkable achievement acknowledged by the IPTAB, he was chosen as the most outstanding trial judge of the year 2021.
Additionally, while dispatched as a Humphrey Fellow at Boston University on a government scholarship jointly sponsored by both the Korean and US governments, he joined the ‘Freedom to Operate (FTO) project’ at the Boston University Technology Development Office as a licensing analyst in 2009, taking part in technology transfers and commercialization of patents held by Boston University. During the process, he was able to broaden the horizon of his knowledge and experience in the relevant field, which can create synergies when combined with his expertise in intellectual property rights.
