Jiyoung Sohn is a member of the firm’s Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMT) Practice. She advises multinational companies on high-stakes Korean regulatory investigations, privacy enforcement, administrative litigation, cross-border enforcement, and compliance matters arising from technology-driven and data-centric business models. Her practice spans digital platform regulation, data protection, adtech, cybersecurity, corporate investigations, and crisis and reputational risk management, with a focus on translating complex Korean regulatory requirements into practical, actionable global legal strategy.
Ms. Sohn counsels global companies on data privacy and protection, cross-border data transfers, cybersecurity incident response, digital platform and online content regulation, telecommunications compliance, and Korean regulatory inquiries. She has significant experience in high-profile privacy enforcement and administrative litigation matters in Korea, including disputes involving large-scale regulatory sanctions, behavioural advertising, and data protection compliance for global technology platforms.
In addition to her TMT practice, Ms. Sohn advises on corporate investigations, white-collar defense, regulatory compliance, and cross-border investigations, often involving technology-related evidence and cross-border data. She has advised multinational companies on regulatory investigations and crisis management in connection with major incidents and high-profile enforcement matters. She also has experience representing global brands in sensitive government investigations, focusing on criminal defense strategy, internal fact-finding, and reputational risk management.
Prior to joining Bae, Kim & Lee LLC, Ms. Sohn served as a Foreign Attorney at Kim & Chang from 2012 to 2018, where she represented a broad range of companies in investigations and disputes. Earlier in her career, she was an associate at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP in New York from 2007 to 2012, focusing on capital markets.
Ms. Sohn received a B.A. in Political Science from Yale University in 1999 and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School in 2007. She is admitted to the New York Bar. Her work has been recognised by The Legal 500 as a Leading Lawyer (2023-2025) and a Next Generation Partner in Regulatory: White-Collar, Compliance and Investigations. Prior to her legal career, Ms. Sohn worked as a management consultant at Accenture.
