Hyeong Woog Kim advises on general matters in the regulatory group of the firm. Mr. Kim entered politics as a secretary for Daejung Kim, the then President of the National Congress for New Politics, and then worked as an administrative officer and a secretary officer at the Presidential Secretariat of former Presidents Daejung Kim and Moohyun Roh, and even served as the senior secretary to the President for Civil Affairs at the Office of the Prime Minister.
During about 10 years of tenure at the Blue House and the Office of the Prime Minister, Mr. Kim cooperated with the National Assembly and various ministries not only on social policy issues concerning, for example, labor, health and welfare, and education, but also on tasks for planning national policies regarding, for example, state budget, national projects, and regulatory system improvement.
In addition, Mr. Kim would act as a libero and sweep out issues or conflicts that were escalated as national tasks—for example, in the course of managing all of the Blue House’s working-level tasks for hosting the World Cup, resolving the disputes arising from the Saemangeum land reclamation project and the Pyeongtaek U.S. military base construction project, respectively, and mediating between Hyundai Motors' management and its labor union on strike.
Moreover, throughout his political career, Mr. Kim built comprehensive expertise on national legislation and policies—to the extent that he is now known to have the rare capability of coming and going across the National Assembly, the Administration, and labor and civic groups and networking, communicating with and mediating between them.
Besides, since 2018, Mr. Kim has held the vice chairmanship and the chairmanship at Korea T-commerce Association, an association for data home shopping companies—which is why he is expected to directly provide his clients with wide and deep advice on regulatory matters by using his capability of masterfully networking and communicating with the regulatory improvement authorities, including the National Assembly.
