John P. Bang is the head and founder of Bae, Kim and Lee’s International Arbitration Practice Group. He has acted as counsel in over 200 international arbitrations under the rules of all leading arbitral institutions; specifically appearing in more than 100 cases in front of the ICC.
Clients praise Mr. Bang for his “most effective advocacy, comprehensive understanding of Korean disputes and dedication to detail” (Chambers Asia 2019). Who’s Who Legal notes that Mr. Bang is “one of the most active arbitration practitioners in Korea” as he has represented parties in over 200 proceedings under the rules of all major institutional and/or ad hoc arbitration including the ICC, ICSID, LCIA, AAA/ICDR, UNCITRAL, CIETAC, HKIAC, JCAA, KCAB, and SIAC. Mr. Bang has considerable experience in handling disputes under the laws of both the civil and common law jurisdictions.

John was awarded the “Dispute Resolution Lawyer of the Year” at the ALB Korea Law Awards in 2019 and “Disputes Star of the Year” at the Asia-Pacific Dispute Resolution Awards in 2016. In 2011, John was included in GAR’s exclusive “45 under 45” list as one of only 5 individuals included from Asia.
He is a Court member of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and an officer in the IBA Litigation Committee.
