Germany

The German team at BKL is the leading one-stop legal service provider covering the full spectrum of legal needs for German companies in Korea, including incorporation, tax, M&A, labor, personal information protection, compliance, antitrust, competition, IP, dispute resolution (litigation and arbitration) and trade. We have formed a task force in particular for our German and German-speaking clients as well as for our Korean clients with business operations in Germany.

The team is composed of dedicated attorneys, who have experiences in Germany and are proficient in the German language. Hee-Gang Shin, who leads the German team and is an expert for banking and finance, has significant professional experience in providing expert advice with respect to German-related matters. Mino Han, attorney in the international dispute resolution team of BKL, regularly advises German companies in court and arbitration proceedings in Korea.

The recent addition to the German team is Michael Suh, German attorney at law. Michael Suh passed the bar exam in Cologne, Germany in 2006 and obtained the doctoral degree at the University of Vienna, Austria, in the field of comparative law. Having practiced in Korea for more than five years, Michael Suh boosts the capabilities of the German team enabling us to provide the highest quality of legal advice, which is tailored for our German clients. Michael Suh is very familiar with local customs and culture in both Germany and Korea and, thus, is able to provide German clients in Korea and Korean clients in Germany with in-depth and comprehensive advice.

Hee-Gang Shin, Mino Han and Michael Suh constitute the core of the German team, which is augmented by Joonki Yi, who leads the outbound M&A team at BKL, Dae-Hyun Baek, who focuses his main area of practice in corporate matters, Matthew J. Christensen, who is a US attorney in the international arbitration team of BKL, Chan-Ho Lee, who is part of our defense industry and legislation consulting team and served as a resident officer of the Ministry of Unification in Bonn, Germany, Sang-Hoon Shin, who is an expert for antitrust issues with extensive working experience in the Korean Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) and Il Kang, partner in our antitrust team, who gained professional experience as a visiting attorney in a major German law firm.
