Bae, Kim & Lee LLC has been named “Korean Law Firm of the Year”, among the annual China Law Awards judged by Asian Legal Business magazine (ALB). The ALB awards, recognizing achievement and distinction in China-related deals and legal practice in 2009, were announced on April 16, 2010 at a ceremony at the Westin Bund Center in Shanghai. BKL received top honors for Korean firms active in the China market, in this first year in which the ALB adopted the Korea-specific category. BKL’s impressive China work in 2009 included advising on the US$4 billion Guangzhou LCD Panel Project, which is a joint venture between LG Display and the Guangzhou city government, and a US$350 million semiconductor facility financing involving Korean maker Hynix and the Wuxi local government. The law firm accolade is also seen as recognition for BKL’s pioneering steps in the China market, having been the first Korean firm to set up a specialized China group (in 1997), and also the first to open offices in Beijing (2004) and Shanghai (2008). The annual China Law Awards, now in their 7th year, are based on surveys and interviews of practitioners, including in-house counsel and legal affairs staff at major companies and financial institutions focusing on China work, as well as third party data and the knowledge base of the ALB (a leading industry periodical in the Asia-Pacific region). From the resulting shortlists, the winner in each category is selected by an ALB-appointed panel of judges. |
